The same store front today with the replica

building has become one of the most
popular attractions in Memphis. The
recording studio is still in use.

Sun Studio has been given National
Landmark status by the National Park
Service in recognition of its place in music
history. Founder Sam Phillips lived long
enough in 2003 to be told of this honor.

The Hotel Chisca, where Dewey Phillips worked. The radio
station WHBQ had its office and broadcast station on the
mezzanine floor, one above the lobby, of the hotel. Or as
Dewey said, the "magazine floor." Dewey was loved for his
abuse of the language as much as his choice of music.

It has here that Dewey played Elvis' recording on the air for
the first time in July 1954.
